Weekly SNAC, 1 October 2017 - What’s coming up in Term 4?

In Term 4 our sermon series will be on the book of Jeremiah. Jeremiah is one of the great prophets of the Old Testament who stood up against all sorts of opposition to preach the truth of God’s word. Often people did not want to hear his message and so he suffered horrible persecution at the hands of people who claimed to be leaders of the people of God.

Jeremiah called on God’s people to repent and turn back to God, but in the face of their rejection of God and His word, in the end Jeremiah reluctantly prophesied God’s judgement on his people. However, even amidst his words of judgement, Jeremiah always pointed people to a future hope.

In the end this is the wonderful two-fold message of Jeremiah to us today:
1) God is righteous and will not tolerate sin, but
2) God is merciful and will always offer hope to those who turn to him in repentance and faith.

Each week in our sermon series we will focus on a short section of the book and then have chapters to go and read during the week (please see the plan below). However, if you wanted to prepare ahead of time you could start by reading 2 Kings 24-25 which gives the historical context for the book.

Week 1 (15 October) – Jeremiah 1 (Reading Jeremiah 1-6)
Week 2 – Jeremiah 7 (Reading Jeremiah 7-14)
Week 3 – Jeremiah 15-16 (Reading Jeremiah 15-25)
Week 4 – Jeremiah 29 (Reading Jeremiah 26-29)
Week 5 – Jeremiah 30 (Reading Jeremiah 30-31)
Week 6 – Jeremiah 32 (Reading Jeremiah 32-33)
Week 7 – Jeremiah 36 (Reading Jeremiah 34-45)
Week 8 – Jeremiah 51-52 (Reading Jeremiah 46-52)
